CNAG – The Institute

The CNAG Consortium carries out large-scale projects in DNA/RNA analysis for the improvement of quality of life in collaboration with the Spanish, European and International Research Community. The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe, with several Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencers, state-of-the-art single-cell equipment, and an extensive informatics infrastructure. The operation is certified ISO 9001 and accredited ISO 17025, delivering standardized, high-quality data for research and clinics. The CNAG has over 125 members, structured in different units such Bioinformatics, Sequencing, Research and Corporate Management, and participates in major International Genome Initiatives and EU-funded projects.

 

The Role

The candidate will be integrated into the Single Cell Genomics Team and will support the operational execution of the SERPENTINE clinical research project, a collaborative study between CNAG and the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) investigating immune responses to cancer immunotherapy using single-cell RNA sequencing.

Working closely with the Principal Investigator, laboratory personnel, sequencing facilities, bioinformatics teams and clinical collaborators, the Operations Manager will ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the project, coordinating laboratory logistics, sample workflows, procurement activities, documentation, and administrative processes required for the successful delivery of the project.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operational activities required for the execution of the SERPENTINE project.
  • Coordinate the reception, registration, tracking and documentation of clinical samples throughout the experimental workflow, ensuring complete traceability.
  • Organize laboratory workflows for single-cell library preparation, sequencing and data delivery in collaboration with the different CNAG units.
  • Monitor project timelines and coordinate operational activities to ensure their fulfillment on schedule.
  • Coordinate communication with the clinical partner (VHIO) regarding sample logistics, project planning and operational matters.
  • Manage purchasing processes for reagents, consumables and laboratory materials required for the project.
  • Monitor laboratory inventories and coordinate stock replenishment to guarantee uninterrupted project execution.
  • Prepare operational documentation, technical reports and administrative documentation required throughout the project.
  • Support budget monitoring, invoicing requests and administrative follow-up associated with the SERPENTINE collaboration.
  • Maintain project documentation and provide operational support to the Principal Investigator and research team.

 

Whom would we like to hire?

  • You have a PhD in Genetics, biochemistry, biomedicine or biology.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Budget monitoring and administrative management skills.
  • Experience using management tools similar to JIRA, TRELLO, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is an asset.
  • Experience using SAP Business One for administrative management is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proactive, reliable, and solution-oriented approach to daily operations.

 

The Offer

  • Contract duration: Until December 31st 2027, linked to the duration of the SERPENTINE project
  • Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales
