Join us for an insightful Scientific Talk featuring Michael Baudis, Professor at the Institute of Molecular Life Sciences (University of Zurich), and Group Leader at the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: MICHAEL BAUDIS

Michael Baudis is a medical doctor and oncogenomics researcher who trained at Heidelberg University, completing his doctoral work at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) on the genomic characterisation of malignant lymphomas. After clinical work in Haematology and Oncology, he carried out postdoctoral research at Stanford University and later at the University of Florida, focusing on the functional analysis of leukaemia-associated fusion genes. His early interest in the systematic collection of genomic profiling data led to the creation of Progenetix in 2001, one of the first comprehensive online resources for cancer cytogenomics.

Since 2007, he has been based at the University of Zurich, where he is now Professor of Bioinformatics and leads the Computational Oncogenomics group, specialising in comparative cancer genome analysis with a strong focus on copy number variation. Internationally, he is an active member of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH), serving in several leadership roles, and co-chairs the ELIXIR Beacon project, which develops privacy-preserving approaches for querying distributed genomic data. He has also contributed to national efforts in Switzerland through advisory work with the Swiss Personalised Health Network (SPHN).
