The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) has named Lluís Solà as its new General Manager, marking a key moment as the organisation embarks on a new chapter of growth after fifteen years of sustained excellence.

 

With over two decades of experience across the public research ecosystem and the scientific contract research sector, Lluís Solà has dedicated much of his career to guiding research institutions and leading key areas such as administrative organisation, strategic institutional planning, research projects, business development and innovation. His broad expertise will be instrumental in contributing to the sustainable and strategic advancement of our centre.
 
According to Lluís Solà: “It is an honour and a privilege for me to join the CNAG, an international centre of excellence in genomic analysis and research, with a significant impact on improving people’s health and wellbeing. My aim is to work closely with the entire team and, in my role as General Manager, contribute to strengthening scientific excellence, attracting talent, enhancing the centre’s capacity for innovation, and broadening its social impact.”
 
 
About Lluís Solà
 
Lluís Solà holds a PhD in Chemistry and began his career at the University of Barcelona, leading a technology platform in chemical process development, supporting both academic research and industry driven projects. 
 
From 2004 and for eighteen years, he brought his expertise to the Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ), a public research foundation dedicated to advancing chemistry to address some of the most pressing global challenges, including the climate crisis, energy transition, and human health. At ICIQ, an institution with more than 300 professionals, he served in several leadership roles, including eight years as Managing Director, overseeing finance, procurement and budget management, human resources, ICT, grants management and Knowledge and technology transfer.
 
During this time, he deepened his training in leadership at IESE Business School in Boston and completed the Finance for Executives programme at EADA Business School. 
 
Beyond his management background, Lluís Solà has extensive experience in areas such as innovation, strategic partnerships, and entrepreneurship. In 2003, he co founded Enantia, one of the University of Barcelona’s first spin off companies, where he served as Corporate Strategy Director for three years before joining CNAG. His work in innovation also extends to the pharmaceutical sector, where he is listed as an inventor on numerous patent applications, reflecting his commitment to transforming scientific advances into real world impact.
