The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe. CNAG researchers participate in major International Genomic Initiatives, as well as in several EU-funded projects.

The CNAG is a scientific-technical infrastructure created in 2010 by the Spanish General State Governance and the Generalitat de Catalunya, with a unique capacity and experience in Spain in the field of genomics. At the end of 2014, it was incorporated into the map of Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS), as a node of the Integrated Infrastructure of Omics Technologies (OmicsTech).

We are a team of 120 highly qualified people, organized into laboratory personnel, computer scientists, bioinformaticians and administration personnel, of whom more than 80% have PhD or Master studies.

CNAG has become as one of the Spanish and European centers of reference in the sequencing and analysis of genomic data. Thanks to its powerful infrastructure, the Center contributes to significantly improve people's health and quality of life.

THE ROLE

The Post-Award Grants Officer is responsible for the management of the funds received related to the projects or collaboration agreements with the different institutions that have been assigned to the CNAG Consortium, the control of the expenditure, the fulfilment of the conditions, as well as the post-award closure of these funds and the elaboration of financial reports. Proactively supports the CNAG Consortium and Pre-award activity, in obtaining competitive funds for research and institute related activities, manages the financing of principal investigators with individualized professional support throughout the project lifecycle, following internal policies and the terms and conditions of the funding agencies.

The Post-Award Grants Officer position reports directly to Finance Management, framed within the Finance department of the CNAG Consortium.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide comprehensive support in the preparation and submission of proposals and grant acceptance procedures.
Manage and monitor the budget and expenditure levels of assigned projects to provide project holders with regular monitoring in relation to expenditure control, budget variances and budget forecasts, applying a strategic view of fund management.
Maintain updated accounting records of funds and grants in ERP and provide assistance in keeping data updated for the annual and monthly closing process.
Attend to requests for information or financial reports from department management in a timely and required manner.
Prepare project financial statements and provide any other information required to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Comply with administrative and reporting requirements of financing agencies or sponsors/donors for active grants.
To ensure the justification and normative documentation of the projects managed in a timely and correct manner, acting as a liaison between the different agents involved.
Coordinate actions related to financial audits and the management of financed projects.
Support the staff of the CNAG Consortium in the economic and administrative management of its funds.
Act as the financial control point for personnel expenses, equipment purchases and the contracting of services (or their adjustment) of the funds allocated to the financed projects.
Liaise with funding agencies and project coordinators to resolve administrative and financial issues.
Proactively collaborate closely with other team members and other relevant areas of administration (Pre-award, Controlling, Accounting, Procurement, Project Management, Human Resources, etc.) ensuring optimal management of resources and funds allocated to projects.
Identification and efficiently disseminate the most appropriate funding opportunities for the CNAG community.
Effectively manage budgets and control competitive funds in accordance with applicable regulations and CNAG Consortium policies.

WHOM WOULD WE LIKE TO HIRE?

A minimum three-year experience in a similar position in a scientific environment.

Proven experience in managing applications to the major competitive calls for fellowships or research projects of national and international funding bodies.

Proven experience in financial management and reporting of public and private competitive funding (e.g. Spanish and Catalan government, European Commission, private foundations).

Knowledge of SAP.

Degree in Finance or Economics related disciplines.

Fluent in English and Spanish.

DESIRABLE BUT NOT REQUIRED

You have experience in managing applications to the major competitive calls for fellowships or research projects of national and international funding bodies (e.g. eligibility check, budget development, proposal submission, etc.).

Contract duration: Permanent position subject to a 6 months probationary period.
Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
