CNAG – The Institute

The CNAG Consortium carries out large-scale projects in DNA/RNA analysis for the improvement of quality of life in collaboration with the Spanish, European and International Research Community. The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe, with several Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencers, state-of-the-art single-cell equipment, and an extensive informatics infrastructure. The operation is certified ISO 9001 and accredited ISO 17025, delivering standardized, high-quality data for research and clinics. The CNAG has over 125 professionals and participates in major International Genome Initiatives and EU-funded projects.

The CNAG has more than 100 professionals, structured in different units such Bioinformatics, Sequencing, Single-cell, Research and Corporate Management.

The Role

We have an opening for a Nextflow genomics pipelines developer in the Variant Calling and Analysis team. The team collaborates with external and internal researchers on their sequencing analysis projects and works closely with CNAG’s Sequencing Unit and the Production Bioinformatics team. The team develops and operates state-of-the-art pipelines and tools to ISO accredited standards. The team focus is in the identification and annotation of germline variants and somatic mutations from short read and long read sequencing data, mostly from human data but also from many other organisms. In addition, the team collaborates in tertiary analysis in many projects.

The successful candidate will join the Variant Calling and Analysis team, coordinated by Dr. Raul Tonda (https://www.cnag.eu/teams/bioinformatics-unit/variant-calling-and-analysis). The team is part of the CNAG Bioinformatics Unit (led by Dr. Sergi Beltran), which has over 30 members and offers continuous growth and support on a professional level.

The team works in a stimulating scientific environment, applying state-of-the-art technologies to breakthrough research projects in Genomics that have an impact on people’s health. The team is involved in the IMPaCT – Datos 2 project, funded by Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
