The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe. CNAG researchers participate in major International Genomic Initiatives, as well as in several EU-funded projects.

The CNAG is a scientific-technical infrastructure created in 2010, with a unique capacity and experience in Spain in the field of genomics. At the end of 2014, it was incorporated into the map of Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS), as a node of the Integrated Infrastructure of Omics Technologies (OmicsTech).

We are a team of more than 100 highly qualified people, organized into laboratory personnel, computer scientists, bioinformaticians and administration personnel, of whom more than 50% have doctoral studies.

CNAG has become as one of the Spanish and European centers of reference in the sequencing and analysis of genomic data. Thanks to its powerful infrastructure, the Center contributes to significantly improve people's health and quality of life.

The role:

We are looking for a Head of IT who is excited by the challenge of providing an excellent service in a stimulating international research environment and is able to align technical requirements with the organization needs.

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, the Head of the IT Department shall be responsible for the design and implementation of the information and technology systems and services in line with CNAG’s strategic goals, for the smooth running, timely provision of the services, for its quality and cost effectiveness. He/she shall provide leadership to, and ensure efficient management of the Department.

The successful candidate will be working closely with the scientific community and Administration, in particular with CNAG’s technical-related services responsible for purchasing of scientific equipment, facility management and scientific high performance storage and computation, as well as with the communication area for websites and intranet.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • • Design the IT infrastructure and services in line with the institute’s priorities and needs, ensuring system functionality and compatibility.
  • • Supervise IT daily operations (helpdesk, systems administration, web development and administration, ERP technical administration) to deliver quality and timely services.
  • • Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems.
  • • Lead efforts to improve IT processes, identify bottlenecks or improvement areas and implement strategic solutions/projects in time.
  • • Develop requirements for IT projects, lead and oversee all phases of project from conception to completion and ensure project is completed within budget and on time.
  • • Coordinate and manage staff by recruiting, training and coaching employees and providing leadership, maintaining a collaborative and constructive working environment within the department.
  • • Develop best practices and written documentation, as well as assess IT activity using KPIs.
  • • Establish good relations with external partners and collaborations with research institutes at local and international level.
  • • To assist in the preparation of tender documents.

 

Whom would we like to hire?

  • • You have a minimum 5 years of working experience in a senior position in IT management, preferably in an international research and/or academic environment.
  • • You have experience leading people.
  • • You have a higher education degree (or qualification) equivalent to a master’s degree, in computer sciences, information systems, engineering or a similar.
  • • Advanced level of English written and spoken and good command of Spanish.

 

Desirable but not required

  • • Catalan will be an advantage.
