The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe. CNAG-CRG researchers participate in major International Genomic Initiatives such as the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC), the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) and the European Infrastructure for life-science information (ELIXIR), as well as in several EU-funded projects.

It is integrated with the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research' logo from the European Commission. The role

We have an opening for a Cancer Genomics Specialist to play a key role in several cancer related projects, such as Instand-NGS4P (https://www.instandngs4p.eu/) and CGI Clinics (recently awarded Horizon Europe project; pending grant agreement). Specifically for Instand-NGS4P, the aim is to develop a standardised Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflow from NGS data analysis to medical-decision making for common and rare adult and paediatric cancer. The workflow will leverage, among other, the current RD-Connect Genome Phenome Analysis Platform (https://platform.rd-connect.eu/), with the objective to cover data management, clinical and genome data integration, genome analysis pipelines, variant annotation, interpretation and reporting. With the supervision of the Head of the Bioinformatics Unit and in collaboration with technical and engineer specialists, the successful candidate will co-coordinate the elaboration of a solution design for the cancer workflow and will be responsible for writing a proposal for such a workflow. He/she will also play a key role in the implementation and execution of the CNAG-CRG Bioinformatics Unit strategy on Cancer Genomics.

Responsibilities:

1- Coordinate the definition of the NGS workflow technical details, in collaboration with technical specialists

2- Coordinate the writing of a strong and innovative project proposal

3- Coordinate and write technical reports

4- Participate proactively in the definition, implementation and execution of the Unit’s strategy on Cancer Genomics.

5- Analysis and interpretation of NGS Cancer data

6- Contribution to technical documents and reports

7- Networking with the Spanish and European clinical genomics communities and bioinformaticians



About the team

The successful candidate will join the Data Analysis team. The team is part of the CNAG-CRG Bioinformatics Unit, which has 22 members in total and is coordinated by Dr. Sergi Beltran. 

The team works in a stimulating scientific environment, contributing to breakthrough research projects in Genomics that have an impact on people’s quality of life and offers continuous growth and support on a professional level.

Whom would we like to hire?

Professional experience

Must Have

• You have a minimum experience of 3 years in Cancer Genomics, preferentially on the use of NGS data in a clinical setting.

• You have proven experience in writing project proposal and technical reports.

Desirable but not required/ Nice to have

• You have experience on NGS data management and analysis.

• You have experience on writing clinical reports from NGS results.

Education and training

• You hold a MD or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or related discipline.

Languages

• You have excellent spoken and written English.

Competences

• You have high developed organisational skill

• You know how to prioritize

• You have good communication skills

• You have interpersonal skills

The offer

• Contract duration: Long term position subject to external funding.

• Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
